The spec for a 10-core Snapdragon has leaked to the internet, it is the hottest of the news that MediaTek has a 10-core system-on-chip (SoC) in the pipeline.
The first 10-core chipset will be the Snapdragon 818 cpu, with four 1.2GHz low-power Cortex-A53 cores, two 1.6GHz mid-power Cortex-A53 cores and four more 2GHz high-power Cortex-A72 cores rocking along. All of this, including LPDDR4 support and LTE-A Cat10 support, will be baked into the 20nm process.
The chip is a Snapdragon 818, as per the leak, and the speculation is that it will include a group of four low-powered 1.2 GHz clocked Cortex-A53 cores, a group of two medium-powered 1.6 GHz clocked Cortex-A53s, and a third group comprised of 4 more 2.0 GHz clocked Cortex-A72 cores.
In the possibility, we can expect to see some smartphones with this chip, but for now, nothing has been verified yet, so for now we’re going to have to wait to get off this rumored train, and get on the next flight. For now, what do you think of the 10-core smartphone world? It’s going to come faster than you thought.
Moreover, compare this with the Helio X20, which will also have three categories of cores, one having a pair of 2.5GHz clocked Cortex-A72s, four 2GHz clocked Cortex-A53 cores, and a third cluster of four 1.4GHz clocked Cortex-A53 cores.
